Especially useful are walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, and grapes. The main reason is the content of resveratrol in them, which protects the brain from problems with cognitive function. Resveratrol is also found in red wine that also has many health benefits.
To reach these conclusion Spanish scientists from the University of Barcelona made research about nuts benefits. The study involved patients with severe metabolic syndrome. Divided into two groups, one of which is eating normally and the other consumes large quantities of walnuts.
After 12 weeks was clear that the group which ate walnuts had a significantly improved mood and decreased inflammation. Polyphenols in walnuts are considered to be major culprits for this effect on people.
And even though nuts contain too many calories they should not be excluded entirely from the menu. Walnuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which make them very useful for brain and heart, vitamins and minerals, fiber and amino acid tryptophan.
Almonds, in turn, are packed with healthy fiber – fiber, protein, amino acids, calcium, vitamin E, are just some of them. Vitamin E is an antioxidant, which neutralize free radicals. Scientists say that only 23 almonds a day gives 35% of needed vitamin E.
Almonds are also beneficial for weight loss because of fibers, good fats and proteins.
Health heart is one of the greatest benefits of almonds. It is due to low levels of saturated fats. This leads to normal levels of cholesterol and healthy heart. Last but not least almonds have low gylcemic index and this make them good for people suffering from diabetes.
Experts’ advice eating at least two or three times a week, walnuts, hazelnuts and almonds, preferably raw. Nuts are delicious so it is not difficult to consume them.
