Could something so sweet and delicious do so much damage?

Alas, yes! If you do not know exactly how sugar negatively affects your health, here we offer you something hopefully useful – meet major reasons why it is better to constrain it in your diet:

sugar harms
Sugar may lead to numerous diseases

1. Sugar rises blood sugar

Unstable blood sugar levels often lead to bad mood, fatigue, headache and cravings for more sugar. This need forms the cycle of addiction in which each new sugar “kick” makes you feel better for a while, but after a few hours again experiencing an acute need for sugar and hunger. However, those who shun sugar say they rarely, if not all, not in need of sweets and feel emotionally stable and full of energy.

2. Sugar leads to greater risk for diabetes, heart diseases and obesity

Extensive studies show that the higher glycemic index (GI) of food a person consumes, so is greater risk of weight gain, disease diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. New research suggests a link between high GI and various forms of cancer.

3. Sugar affects immune system

There has been no research on humans, but animal studies indicate that sugar suppresses immunity. More research is needed to understand the exact mechanism, but what is known is that the bacteria feed on sugar and that when these organisms’ out of control “in the body, infections and diseases are more likely”.

4.Frequent consumption of foods with sugar leads to chromium deficiency

This is something like “Catch-22″: if you eat too much sugar and other processed carbohydrates are unlikely to get enough chromium, and one of the main functions of chromium is to regulate blood sugar. According to experts, most of us do not get enough chromium in the diet.

Chromium is found in various animal foods, seafood and fish, and in most plant foods. Processed starches and other carbohydrates “steal” of these foods chromium, so think in the direction of “whole grains”.

5. Sugar “helps” us to get older
It contributes to one telltale sign of aging – sagging skin. Part of the sugar you eat, after the “hit” in the bloodstream, ends the attack, adhering to proteins - a process called glycation. The more sugar circulating in the blood, the faster it damages.

6. Sugar damages teeth

Although there are many more damaging harms of sugar we frequently forget one of the main ones. When it comes to teeth, sugar harms them more “efficiently” than any other food substance and all the money in the world cannot reverse this process.

7. Sugar increases stress

When we are under stress, the levels of stress hormones increase. These chemicals are “emergency team” of the body, sent to prepare the body to attack or retreat. They also come into action when blood sugar is low.

8. Sugar takes the place of important nutrients

People who consume more sugar absorb less of vital nutrients and especially vitamin A, vitamin C, folic acid, vitamin B-12, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and iron. Unfortunately, children and teenagers consume mostly sugar – and they are the people who most need these nutrients from these nutrients.

Perhaps getting acquainted with these ten reasons to not eat sugar (or at least not in such large quantities) will try to be more careful in choosing foods. The first step is to learn where the “hidden” sugar is- believe it or not, but a food is not necessarily even having a sweet taste to be “trodden down” with sugar.

Read labels of packaged foods and know that just because something “flaunt” it is low carb or “diet” does not mean it does not contain sugar.
