Meditation in people with high blood pressure, especially adolescents, may have beneficial effects on heart health, according to scientists from Georgia Health Sciences University, passed georgiahealth.edu.
Survey of 62 black teenagers suffering from high blood pressure shows that if meditating twice a day for 15 minutes the chance of developing cardiovascular disease decreases, said Dr. Vernon Barnes, a physiologist in the Medical College of Georgia and the Georgia Health Sciences University Institute of Public and Preventive Health.

Study participants were divided into two groups, one practiced meditation twice a day for half a month – 15 minutes in a group meditation and 15 minutes at home, and the second was instructed how to control their blood pressure without the aid of meditation . After the study, the performance of the first group was much better than the second. During meditation levels of stress hormones in the body decrease the body relaxes and blood pressure normalized and the heart is not loaded excessively. Surveys conducted among young people in school shows that meditation helps to positive changes in the behavior of young people. Transcendental Meditation relaxes the body and even more sleep and it helps to improve health. If meditation begins to be used as a method to deal with high blood pressure, it would help prevent any further cardiovascular diseases in adolescents and in elderly people.
Meditation turns information into perceived experience. At the first level, its purpose is to calm the mind and keep it in one place. It creates space between experience and their experiences, allowing wise to choose roles in the comedies of life and avoid its tragedies. This protective distance is most often achieved through awareness of breath or through concentration on Buddha in meditation form called samatha in Sanskrit or Tibetan Overcoat. All that can keep this state of mind in the laboratory situation in their meditation will do so gradually and in everyday life.
This is the first step in their development and the necessary basis for penetrating insight, and for more sophisticated practices.
