Bulimia – The Invisible Enemy

According to the World Health Organization over the past two years, cases of anorexia and bulimia among young people between 12 to 16 years have increased twice

Moreover, 67% of them suffer from severe exhaustion and expressed mental disorder. Because of dissatisfaction with their appearance a hundred teenagers had tried to part with his life. It is estimated that the world of anorexia suffer about 12 per 100 000 and from bulimia – 24 100 000. 90% of those suffering from anorexia are young women aged 12 to 24 years.

In the remaining 10% are women and adult men. According to foreign press age of onset of these diseases is constantly falling, and there are reported cases of eating disorders in children under 10 years.
And who are they and what are their symptoms?
Main types of eating disorders:
Bulimia
Anorexia
Hyperphagia – systematic overeating
Ortorexia – compulsive desire to eat only healthy food
Drinkoreksiya – so-called “alcohol diet,” characterized by replacing food with alcohol to intentional weight loss and control over it.

Eating Disorders – Leading Cause of Death among Young Women

Selective feeding – refusal to accept certain products, and culminating in the use of very limited list of foods and an unwillingness to try new ones. The principle of selection may include the color of food and other types of accessories.
Obsessive compulsive overeating – associated with obsessive-compulsive disorder as part of the typical compulsive rituals.
Alotriofagiya – eating non-food substances that are most common in young children and people with delayed mental development. Patients often absorb dangerous and sharp objects: glass, nails, etc.
Bulimia nervosa
Bulimia nervosa is eating disorder, which is characterized by recurrent bouts of overeating, immediately followed by purging – by vomiting, diuretic and laxative, enema, and movement. The term, translated from Greek, means “ox hunger”. People suffering from bulimia usually have normal weight. A typical manifestation of this disease is often overeating followed by induced vomiting, use of laxatives and diuretics.
Bulimia is not ordinary desire to lose weight. Naturally, there is no doubt that caring for your own appearance and body are the main cause of such widespread diseases such as bulimia and anorexia. It is no accident and the fact that these diseases occur mainly during puberty – the critical period of human development, when most people form their views and value system that little change in their subsequent lives.
What begins as an innocent desire to reduce weight to enhance physical attractiveness, might lead to a serious health problem that one fight my whole life. Many sufferers from bulimia use food as a means of control and only specialists can help them to understand in what kind of problems are hidden sources of this disease.
Naturally, each person is unique and there may be other problems that may lead  to bulimia – for example, experienced sexual abuse, ridicule of their peers for being overweight and many others. etc.
Sufferers from bulimia tend to hide their condition and others can no longer notice their problem. But we must not forget that is important for the diseases to be recognized on time.
