What should we watch out for?

It’s hard to understand the place of the pain at babies. When they have a discomfort, they just cry. Intuition, watchfulness and the fact that the parents know best their child, may help to determine the origin of the pain, combined with the experience and knowledge of the doctor.

Babies can’t tell where it hurts

The kid usually has a cold and cough before developing the otitis media. The temperature is high, but the extraordinary in this case is that it jumps sharply few days after the first symptoms of the illness exactly when you expect some improvement of the condition. Usually the baby shows with his/her actions the origin of the pain – he/she rubs his/her head on one side and he/she is extremely pissed off and crying.

A sign of a health problem at the newborn is the lack of desire to eat. In case of otitis media it’s because of the pain the baby is feeling when he/she is sucking and swallowing. The infant can start eating with appetite, but he/she will suddenly stop and cry – a sure indicator of terrible discomfort.

The otitis media is a common sickness amongst the smallest children, especially during the winter months, but also in the season of active use of pools and contacts with water. The reason of its development is usually a combination of penetrating water in the ear and infection. The contraction might be due to temporary booms of infections of the respiratory tract, decrease of immunity, etc.
