We all know that some foods are harmful for our health. But, unfortunately, far less known is the fact that other, seemingly healthy foods contain potentially toxic ingredients. We try to eat as balanced a diet include fruits, vegetables and whole grains (ie, beneficial fiber), but recent studies have shown that toxic ingredients that can harm us are hiding even in products like diet soda, cereal and deli meats.
Diet soda and aspartame: harmful and sometimes deadly combination
Diet soda is popular especially among those of us who are trying to lose weight and live healthier – by consuming beverages without calories because they perceive it as an alternative to regular sodas. While we think this way its legal services actually proves that you are at risk – this is often a soda sweetened with aspartame – an artificial sweetener increasingly attacked by specialists for potential harm to our health from him.
Cancer Was Almost UNKNOWN in Ancient Times!
Aspartame contains two amino acids, which are joined by methanol – a substance that breaks down to formaldehyde and formic acid. Methanol is harmful to human body, is carcinogenic and can cause neurotoxicity, birth defects, eye damage and altered DNA copy.
Recent studies explore the dangerous effects of aspartame, focusing on its role in the development of cancer. Publication 2006 Edition Environmental Health Perspectives shows that consumption of aspartame has increased the number of malignant tumors in male and female laboratory animals. Perhaps the most shocking discovery in this study is that aspartame led to the development of brain tumors in 12 of the experimental animals in the control group while none of them developed one.
Foods against Any Bad Mood
The carcinogenic effects may result from the fact that aspartame is broken down into formaldehyde, which is a known carcinogen. A study published in 2008, Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, shows that people exposed to formaldehyde are at increased risk of cancer by 10 to 100 times compared with the tolerable risk of one in a million. Other similar studies also show that formaldehyde is harmful and thus aspartame has its negative effects on our health.
