The disease predisposes to depression and social isolation. Literally the disease drains the physical and mental forces of a person and significantly affects the work performance.

One of the most beautiful people in the world, according to People magazine, the famous Irish singer Sinead O’Connor had to leave her prosperous career because of her fibromyalgia. She announced her retirement in 2003 because she could not deal anymore with the fatigue and pain, caused by the disease. She decided to give herself to her treatment and kids.

Captain Mike from the American TV series “The West Wing” also had severe pain problems with fibromyalgia. He was also forced to retire early because of the disease but he gave himself to the fight with the disease and he became a national spokesman for the fibromyalgia. This fibromyalgia patient is not from our times. Florence Nightingale lived in the Victorian period. She wrote a lot of works on different health topics. She used to heal a lot of patients while she was living in the Ottoman Empire. Her fibromyalgia was triggered from infection. She struggled a lot with the disease. At the end she died when she was 90-years-old while sleeping. The evidence that Florence Nightingale had a fibromyalgia show that the disease was among us for long time but we never acknowledged it as one.

Susan Flannery or mainly known as Stephanie Forrester from “The Bold and the Beautiful” was forced to retire since her constant fight with the fibromyalgia was unsuccessful. She had to leave the show but then she returned again. Flannery still fights everyday with the severe pain conditions and depression, caused by fibromyalgia.
