Also called eccysis, the ectopic pregnancy is a kind of pregnancy complication. It is actually dangerous for the mother (e.g. infernal bleeding can be caused, even death if not treated properly), because the fetus implants outside the uterine cavity. Such pregnancies occur mostly in the Fallopian tube (95 %), but they are possible to be in the abdomen, cervix, ovaries.
Why does ectopic pregnancy happen?
Let’s get to the point: WHY?
Doctors are not giving the exact answers, but there are surely some risks that you shouldn’t take if you want a normal pregnancy. Such problematic factors are smoking, harmful medications, Fallopian tube problems and surgery.
Smoking: Hey, smokers, it’s 5 times more likely for you to have an ectopic pregnancy than non-smokers! The reason is that nicotine causes contractions of the Fallopian tubes and as a result, a blockage can form keeping the embryo away from the uterus. In simple words, the fetus can’t move to the place it has to be.
Hormone medicines: Regular intake of hormone medicines again messes with the Fallopian tubes. Too bad for the embryo, which becomes stuck.
Fallopian tubes: Have any unsolved problem with them? Endometriosis, IUD and pelvic infections may hamper your pregnancy condition. Once more, the fetus wouldn’t be able to get where it should be.
Surgery: If a surgery of your Fallopian tubes has been made, you definitely are going to have the same problem with the pregnancy.
