See which are the most obese cities in the United States
This interesting chart, made by Forbes, shows which are the fattest cities in theUnited States. Actually more than one third of the Americans suffer from obesity today. Each year more than 112 000 americans die from obesity-related diseases.
To determine which were the fattest cities from Forbes looked at the data on the body mass index, or BMI, collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, which conducts phone interviews with residents of metropolitan areas about health issues, including diabetes, obesity and exercise.
Memphis, Tenn.: 34 %
Curently more than 34 per cent ofMemphis’s inhabitants are affected from obesity. It is ranked at the top as the most obese city in the list. People blame the poverty and the famous culture of Southern hospitality and food that values certain types of dishes, report from Forbes. Most of the dishes that the people there consume are fried and they prefer them instead of the healthy vegetables.
Birmingham, Ala.: 31.3 %
And number two is the neighborBirmingham. With its 31.3 per cent it is the second most obese city in theUnited States. The citizens have a body mass index of 30 or higher. The city also has big problems with childhood obesity rates.
San Antonio, Texas: 31.1 %
And of course we cannot pass the “golden” three without addingTexasin it. Famous with its special and very caloric food theTexas citySan Antoniogets the bronze medal for one of the most obese cities inAmerica. The rate of people with weight problems there is 31.1 per cent.
However the people now are alarmed and they have taken some measures.
