Carriers of blood group gene and with lower risk of developing heart disease, found researchers at the University of Pennsylvania. According to the team this discovery will help determine susceptibility to heart disease and the application of preventive measures against development.
Research team found that people with zero blood group have a natural defense against heart attacks even in the presence of plaque in the arteries.
The researchers analyzed the DNA of 12,400 people suffering from ischemic heart disease and 7,400 people without the disease. In research work compares the DNA of 5,800 patients who have experienced heart attacks in 3600 in which no evidence of such.
The research team found that a gene ADAMTS7 the formation of plaque in the arteries which leads to heart disease. The second data analysis team found a link between blood group and susceptibility to heart disease.
Even in the presence of arterial plaques enzyme present in people with blood group zero, it appears that protects them from heart attack. This does not mean that people with this blood group are at risk of developing disease and may ignore other risk factors, says Dr. Riley, one of the researchers. These are: high blood pressure, high bad LDL cholesterol, smoking, obesity.
5 Surprisingly Healthy Habits
ADAMTS7 is a variant of a gene that falls within a group of genes that are several years are considered by the scientific community as posing a risk of heart disease. Most of them lead to atherosclerosis. The discovery of carriage of these genes is important since most people over 60-65 years are found atherosclerotic plaques in the arteries. So it will be possible to determine individual susceptibility to cardiovascular disease as genetic carriers, allowing timely therapeutic measures for vulnerable patients.
