Not all remedies against cancer are medications
We have all heard the sentences in the American movies where the mother prodded her child to eat broccoli and then it unwillingly eats one or two pieces of the green plant. It turns out that broccoli is not for nothing part of our meals – at least not only just to harass adolescent children.
To women that are suffering from breast cancer were given drugs that were made based on broccoli extract. Scientists wanted to see if they will suppress the growth of tumors. Previous studies have shown that the compound released after eating broccoli can boost protective enzymes in the breast tissue, report from Dailymail.
Eating vegetables like broccoli, has long been associated with a reduced risk of various diseases such as cancer and even arthritis, but the mechanism by which vegetables help is not yet fully understood by the scientists.
Scientists from the Institute of Food Research believe that the compound sulforaphane, which is found in high concentrations in broccoli, perhaps pushes the body to fight cancer.
In the study, researchers demonstrated that sulforaphane helps to maintain a healthy balance of antioxidants in the body.
To get the benefits of broccoli, you have to eat three or four dishes of broccoli per week.
Studies have also shown that the compound could stop the development of cancer stem cells which are resistant to chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
“To get the benefits, you would need to eat three or four portions of broccoli a week. Some may find that difficult but, having seen the evidence, my family now eats it three or four times a week.” says Dr Maria Traka, of the Norwich-based IFR, quote from Dailymail.
